Choosing death before it falls upon you is plain stupidity. I used to mock at men who chose to commit suicide over matters I have no idea of. Only people who are mentally weak succumbs to the temptation of suicide to end problems. Only people who are useless decides to jump into the railway track and welcomes the arriving train. I used to say.

Today, I read about the death of a man at Queenstown station. Following his news were ridicules on how his death caused inconvenience to other commuters as the train was delayed. Seriously, what has our society become? Has the virtue of empathy been burnt by wild fires? Since we did not participate in his life, we are in no position to comment his decision. Period.

Not everyone is born with a silver spoon. Not everyone wakes up to a table of delicately prepared English breakfast. Not everyone walks on two legs and carries with two arms. Not everyone has someone to talk to when he is lonely. Not everyone goes for a good weekend family meal. Not everyone has a room of his own. Not everyone even has a bed of his own. For whatever issues that pushed him off sanity, the story would have been different if he has had a friend to talk to.

This selfish narrowminded society.

FROM THIS -->TO THIS -->5 Reasons how this happened:

1) I am mentally weak and succumbed to the hairdresser's sugary words after less than 3 minutes of persuasion. ( I thought such a drastic decision needs at least a week or so? )

2) I had enough of doing that girly action that twirls my long hair into her perfect curl. Afterall, i am a man, this action gives me split personality.

3) Over dinner, while bending over to fetch some food, my long hair dipped into the candle holder and caught fire. It was just a mini hoo-ha, but enough to make her smell like a sad little burnt victim.

4) Life is too short. I must try all hairstyles. Afterall, if it is too ugly, there is always something called the wig.

5) The long hair is too heavy on my shoulders, literally. So, let's take her off.

Randomness pays off, now i'm totally embracing my new short hair!

Secondly, by lunching in, you accumulate all those unattractive fats at your tummy area and walk off with a bonus big fat ass. NOW GET OUT!

2) You social eat.

We all have evil friends who can't wait to see us expand in girth. Friends who know we are striving to maintain a healthy lifestyle but force down that burger king set meal down our throat. One fine day, I had a huge satisfying bowl of fishball noodles for lunch. On a random conversation, I told my colleague that I crave for mushroom swiss burger. After an hour, this very helpful colleague bought his own whopper meal plus another set of mushroom swiss double meal for me (knowing that i just had big lunch). I resisted for 4 times but eventually still gobbled the whole set down my very expanded oesophagus. LEARN HOW TO SAY NO TO EVIL FRIENDS.

3) You shake no ass.

And you are the kind of girl who doesn't like the word sweat. You are a shame to your sweat glands waiting to pounce. To be slim and toned, you can't escape cardio which eventually means you can't escape jogging, cycling or swimming. NOW LOVE SWEAT!

4) You are one apple a day girl.

Fruits contain sugar if you do not know yet. Consuming just fruits everyday for a prolonged period in fact result in weight gain rather than weight loss. Cutting down carbs is a much wiser strategy than going fruitarian. Balance is the word. Counting calories during every meal will put extra pressure on your mind, body and soul. And that calories stress, causes weight gain too!

5) You have a boyfriend.

Self-explanatory. All boyfriends' goal in life is to make their girlfriends fat. Try hiding from them for a month. That's the best way to shed those fats!

So, I spent the past week in Beijing for a shipping conference, and these are the things i want to remember.
.

1) The hotel was a place to fall in love with. It was a jacuzzi to soak bubble bath in, a princess bed to bury my slumber in and an auto warm up toilet seat to plant my lovely ass in. And forget not, extremely friendly hotel staffs to make a blessed homely stay.

2) I used to call it pretentious, but now i call it soft skills. Having technical knowledge of a profession only brings you to the top of the trees. But having the soft skills to socialise appropriately brings you to another world of opportunities. Friends or business partners, i would like plenty of them in my pocket!

3) When i finally got time to myself, i went clubbing alone. Someone told me the club in my hotel is one of the best in Beijing. This is enough reason to justify taking a peep at it. Since no one was free to join me, i decided to explore it on my own. I queued for 40 minutes (alone) only to realise that hotel guests have priority entry. Yes, blame it on stupidity or whatever. In the end, i found myself dancing with random new friends from Argentina and Africa. How insane but fun is that :)

4) It was my first time taking a transit flight. Unfortunately, flight from Beijing to Guangzhou was delayed for one hour due to the lamest reason. This led to a mad rush for my flight when i land in Guangzhou. In order to catch my flight back to Singapore, i had to literally run across two terminals with 3 Peking ducks on my hand. Trust me, ducks are very heavy creatures.

5) I wrote a thank you card to the boy who came to my room for housekeeping every night at 8pm. He told me how lucky i am to be able to travel and stay in nice hotels. To him, supporting his big family back in their village is the only priority in his life. And he is very happy and contented seeing their happy faces everytime he goes home. So much to learn about contentment :)

I was browsing through flowerpod forum when this caught my attention. From the poll, almost 70% of girls had sex (pardon me for the blunt expression) before the age of 21. This means out of you and 2 other girlfriends, only one has not had sex before she turns 21.

One important note: Don't judge a book by its cover. The one who has not had sex might not necessarily be the one who is the most innocent looking, cringing on the word sex individual. And the one who talks liberally about sex does not equate to her being a definite non virgin individual.

This is not allowed in any scenarios, be it birthday parties, weddings or a simple affair to the office. Fashion doesn't allow generous accommodation of another duplicated being. The instinct emotions of the two twins by mistake is scoff. Harsh glances will be exchanged and contemptous body gestures will be transmitted to instill seniority. Eventually, there must be an exclusive glory to the better looking one at any close proximity. To avoid future mistakes like this, i could only think of one most efficient solution.

Yesterday night, out of pure curiosity, i stepped onto the hideous weighing scale. I forgot when was the last time i indulged in similar superficial, bimbotic activity. All along, i lived in my own cloak of a pretty, sexy 46kg. However, i was greeted by a BIG FAT 50.8KG. Now, where did that body mass come from? When did i even allow this extravagant expansion in girth? I admit i have been eating like an emperor, devouring food generously and bragging about how i can eat so much without gaining any weight. I derived glee from the envious look from fellow female buddies who only eat a small apple a day.

IT IS A FACADE. IT IS A HUGE MISTAKE.

Now, i'm reduced to one of those small apples a day ladies.

I was reading about the recent saga of ladyironchef food blogger's arrogant and assuming behavior.

Mistake 1: Who gives you the title of a food blogger? Did you earn an education in gourmet studies. If not, according to my own definitions, i can be a food blogger too. And bonus point, i am prettier than you for sure.

Mistake 2: When someone invites you for a food tasting session, with the goodwill of accomodating another guest, you don't end up bringing 3 friends and expect to taste for free. You are not going to a wedding or a feast. Even wedding invitations, we pay! Wake up your idea, dude.

Mistake 3: Your words as a food blogger has no stand at all. One man's meat is another man's poison. After reading your food reviews, i suspect amateur is your middle name.

Mistake 4: If you are there for a food tasting, how does the wine come into the picture. If all food tasters, or rather food bloggers get free wine, clubbers will find their new green pastures.

Mistake 5: Don't ever throw credit cards at waiters when paying your bill. They are not your slaves, and you are not their lord. Seriously, they don't owe you a living.

Mistake 6: You are not a food connoisseur, not even near that, so cut the arrogance and ego.

Mistake 7: Never blog about your apologies. It does no help at all. Damage done, face it.

Top 5 nerve-wrecking type of friends:

1) The 'Oh, so our meal is 56.70 bucks, that means 18.90 bucks per person for 3. Oh, and you owe me 1.60 bucks for green tea just now.'

I mean come on, we are not accountants after work. We can just settle for 20 bucks per person since it means 2 easier 10 dollars notes. For the drinks, i can always treat you back and the cycle repeats. Do we really have to count to every single cent? Then please return me my 4.30 cab fee that i paid for you the other time, 7.80 tcc coffee last month, the box of monthly contact lens that i gave you a year ago and everything else that i'm going to compile in my list.

2) The 'Hey, I don't like your dress, i think you have really weird taste.'

Seriously, you can look at yourself in the mirror, your dress looks extremely odd too. Real friends don't put you down to bring themselves up. They give constructive comments on how to improve. In fact, i always thought you have lousy figure, bad greasy hair and grotesque dress sense. I just choose to boost your confidence in life everytime i see you because i care.

3) The 'My boyfriend is my love, my world, my everyday.'

These are the friends who go into a state of complete disappearance when they are immersed in the river of love. They no longer initiate phone calls, even when you do call, they find every excuse to assure their hectic schedule. Usually the conversation ends with, hey so sorry i can't talk now, call you back later! Trust me, later is never.

It was just a random chat, just like how you would ask a friend if pink suits you more or yellow. I asked my 11 years old brother about his dream. Such a tender age, such vast chances and opportunities to make reversible mistakes. I was greeted by a pleasant surprise. He tossed out his researches on big names like Cambridge, Harvard, Oxford and Yale. And humbly tucking his ideas back into his little bag since they are such prestigious institutions. He went on to explain that he can see himself enjoying and having great fun in university. I am impressed not by his ambition but by the fact that he even dares to dream very big.

Because i only include pretty pictures on this space, i decided not to post pictures of my steroid induced rosacea face here. It is not suitable for the faint heart. Trust me.

1) No more topical steroid cream = Full blown skin inflammation flare.

2) Imagine a burnt victim, thats how i look like now.

3) The itch is similar to many ants crawling beneath the face, but hell no scratching.

4) It strips off my self esteem, though i have too plenty to begin with.

5) Due to the insane itch, it makes me completely restless at night.

6) I avoid looking into the mirror, because it gives me quite a scare.
7) I still have to go to work = I will get weird stares.

I see friends on facebook complaining about missing their buses, eating too much chocolates, feeling tired, hating long club queues, no more cigarettes, hating their jobs, feeling fat.

After battling ringworms on my face for more than 7 months, i finally decided to seek a second opinion as a form of self-assurance that i am indeed on the road to complete recovery. Also, to be crowned the ringworm warrior. However, happy endings don't come easy as candyfloss. The skin doctor informed that my excessive fungal steroid application has caused my face to bloom into a bed of thorny roses. It is almost like opium addiction, to quote her exact words. The cream steroid that i have been using (Elomet) is akin to opium. They are the drugs. The desire to heal my ringworm scars is akin to annihilating addiction to opium. They are the hidden agendas. The red, itchy, possibly patchy face if elomet treatment is terminated is akin to the nausea, sweating and cramps of an addict who is trying to quit opium. They are the withdrawal symptoms. In order to reverse my face condition to how it was like 7 months ago, i have to stop elomet and give my skin time to heal.

Bad news: It will not be easy because i will have to deal with very red, itchy, peeling skin for 2-3 months.

Good news: It is reversible. After 2-3 mths of Rosacea war, my face will look like how she was 7 months ago.

Bonito Chico was having their mid year flea yesterday at Helipad. It was a horrible eye opener.

3) There are so many girls concealed behind masks of makeup and heaps of powder.

4) Desperate girls are willing to use money just to cut in the front of queues.

7) A flea is equivalent to a war, just that the weapons are bitch stares and unintentional shoves.

5 years ago when i was still adventurous and insanely funky, i had a head of poodle like permed hair. Ever since then, i decided to be tame and keep long straight hair just in case i resemble that sinister poodle again. Last week, i finally took the courage to perm my hair once again since life is getting too stagnant and stale. When i eventually emerged from the salon with permed hair, the hairdresser told me that i have to do the minimal to maintain the look. It is almost easy, breezy, beautiful hair. She reassured me that i just have to give her a random scrunch before i head out to achieve the effortlessly messy chic look.

Ok, a very lovely friend of mine broke up with her boyfriend recently. She is going through a period of what the love gurus call - painful recovery. I know it hurts, i know you no longer recognize your silly self, but these are my golden rules for you.

Rule 1: DO NOT CALL HIM.
I know you miss him very much . I know you want to know if he is doing fine. I know you yearn to hear him telling you how much he has been missing you too and how he can and will never be able to love another girl as much as he has loved you. But let me answer that for you. If you pick up the phone and dial his number, most probably he will not sound as emotional disturbed as you. He is likely to be having any usual lunch with his friend while you on the other line feel daggers piercing through your heart. You might even end up crying painfully while he thinks that you are a weakling who can't let go and move on with life. You hang up the phone and you are back to square one. Now, be ready to start pouring for a brand new week again.

Recently, I caught this movie after a friend's strong recommendation, saying i will sure like it. Nevermind it screened in 2008, i admit i am slow in certain arenas of life.

Cristina is a social non conformist, searching for romantic and unfulfilled love, everything that deviates from the usual stable and socially acceptable love relationship. She has no commitments in life and is free to bask in empty novelties and persistent sparkles.

The last time i wrote a long string of chinese words was my letter to my grandpa before he passed away. That particular letter took me heavy emotions and cutting dread. Although i scored a good grade for my Higher Chinese when i was in secondary school, that is long past history and has no relation to my current ability to write in chinese.

Today, i was assigned an impossible task. My boss showed me a long email written in English (talking about very formal, political and technical issues) and enquired if it is possible for me to do a direct translation in chinese to be sent to a prospective ship buyer in China. Of course, the reason why i got this job is partially because i promised him that my chinese is reasonably good. Hence, i took on the challenge without a frown in my stupid eyebrow.

Firstly, this is not a love letter. Secondly, this is not a short love letter. Thirdly, this is not a english short love letter. Eventually, it took me 3 hours to complete the translation. For sound precaution, i requested my boss to send my email to our representative in China to proofread, just to make sure things are happy and peaceful. To my surprise, he responded with "I do not know who is your translator, but his/her expressions are really weird. There are also some minor wrong words that i spotted. Please ask your translator to be more careful next time'' .

DAMN. GIVE ME THAT CHINESE DICTIONARY!!! NOW!!!

When i was told that i will be going on board a vessel, i was innocently excited. I envisioned strutting in my heels and greeting the deep blue ocean in glam. My fantasies were slightly dashed when my mentor informed me to do away with heels on that day. I arrived at Marina South Pier in T-shirt, jeans and flats, secretly hoping that the sun will show mercy and not eat up the ringworms on my already sensitive face. It was a 20 minutes ride on the water taxi to reach the place where the vessel was parked for the buyer's inspection.

I was greeted by a huge, overwhelming object statued in the middle of the sea. In comparison, the water taxi seemed like a miniature. After some commands which i did not understand, the crew on board extended a rope ladder from the top of the vessel to the tip of the ant-like water taxi. It took almost 5 long minutes for the water taxi to drift to a precision where we could hop onto the rope ladder. I was quite sure i did not sign up for mini fear factor program, but was completely relieved i wasn't in heels and skirt.

Soon we climbed on, which wasn't too hard for me since i am not too much of a girly person. The very helpful mentor gave me a tour around the vessel to familiarise the compartments. Adventurous is too humble a word to describe his character. We climbed down into the engines room which was hot and noisy. We lowered into the tankers where crude oil and chemicals are stored for transportation. When he asked if i was alright to go into the tanker (which was extremely dark, the ladders were slightly coated with remains of oil and dirt), i immediately concealed my concerns and dived in. Little did he know that i was slightly bimbotic and worried about dirt getting into my jeans and face. I felt like i was in the scene of Titanic, but only when it crashed.

Now i know why shipbroking industry is so very male dominated. I was feeling ashamed that i spent too much emotions worrying about dirt getting into my face and sun melting my skin. I brought an umbrella with UV protection but never had the chance to open it because i did not want to seem like a complete bimbo walking on a huge vessel yet whining about the superficials.

Luckily i am a manly female. That pretty much helped a lot :)

Choosing to move on with life is close to saying goodbye to lovely people in my audit job. No doubt i don't have a flare in auditing, working in a big 4 sheltered me from harsh reality. Days are hard, but eventually i fall back on extremely genuine and nice colleagues to giggle around with. I remember days when we stayed up late to work on extremely insane reports. I remember the number of times i witnessed colleagues crying over tight deadlines and unhealthy stress. Nevermind the fact that stress is hardly in my dictionary, looking at lovely people threatened by stress is no funny issue too.

I love days when i joked about my manager and laughing at it later on with another funny colleague. I love days when i watched youtube and spent the whole afternoon dancing in the room with Tej when no one is around. Yea, now you know, SOME AUDITORS DANCE. I love days when i took out my smelly heels and causing huge commotions. I love days when i went into office with big sunshine smiles when eveyone else looked like they just escaped an earthquake. I love days when i looked at kinky bras online with another 2 creatures even when the managers were sitting just behind us. I love days when i felt extremely confused about what i was doing and subsequently completely chucking them into the bins. I love days when i told colleagues stories of my fantasies on telling my manager that she is a completely fucked up bitch. I love days when they were so concerned why was i still working when my ringworms looked so evil. I love days when i bought plenty of food and snacks and finishing every single bit of them.

My farewell was great, my colleagues are extremely lovely. I am insanely lucky to have known all of you. I came into kpmg with groove and funk. I left kpmg with a huge sack of love :)

On my way to work this morning, i decided to purchase a cup of cold soya bean drink from Mr Bean located just beside the train station. Throughout the entire journey, i restrained from poking that itchy green straw into the cap just to abide by the no eating and drinking on train law. However, after 20 boring minutes, i succumbed to the temptation of cold chilled soya milk and took a gentle sip. Just as this action was taking place, an uncle in his late 40s sitting directly opposite me stared at me and gestured vigorously. Initially, i thought he was just stretching his fingers and wrist in a weird manner. Eventually, i realised that he was telling me not to drink on the train cuz i will be fined.

I only wanted to take a sip which probably will only last 4 seconds. But since the uncle is so excited about Singapore law, i decided to finish the entire cup of soya milk which took 7 peaceful minutes.

Uncle, mind your own business. You can't and don't control my actions early in the morning.

When you allow a charming bird to fly across the ocean and explore the forests, she might not want to be caged again. My best friend called me this morning and we engaged in a conversation we missed so much. It is times like these when i realise that i have been too settling with peaceful and tranquil life in S'pore. It has nothing to do with mountains and rivers. Neither is it the majestic architectures or musuems. Eventually, we decided to rest on the word culture. Subjective issues like culture should not be debated too intensely because there will never be a final judgement to it.

Abroad, people dare to chase dreams. They are willing to spend a few years of youth in developing countries to save the world. They want to get involved in politics and participate in their countries' policy making. Often than not, they can be and are firm of what they want to reap out of life already. When the nasty spotlight swings back at myself, i start to feel ashamed. I chose to follow the most comfortable route, nevermind it is what the adults pronounce as the most correct and wise route.

My best friend told me she loves the States. Not for her extravagant economic status. Not for her glamorous media portrayal. But for the people and her culture. She loves the fact that human creatures there do not put a price tag on you and decide to put you on or off shelf immediately. Instead of dwelling into family background or social status, they rest more on your character discovery. If i may be right, it is hard to get an awe out of someone here when you say that Hi, i am a social worker.

I love my best friend. At least she dares to dream :)

1) Snuggle at your tatami mat.

2) Be polite and extremely appreciative to the waiter about to serve you.

3) Enjoy the wide spread of side dishes scattered generously over your table.

4) Continue with side dishes until thick succulent meat arrive.

5) Drool over the sizzling charcoal bbqed meat slabs.

6) Pick up a piece of meat and wrap it with fresh veggies lined in a neat row.

7) Now, put the veggie wrapped bbq meat into your glutton deprived mouth.

Today, I went to a Korean charcoal bbq restaurant with my family for dinner. Beside us sat a Chinese guy with an Indian family. After some scrutiny and unintentional eavesdropping, i concluded that the Indian man is the Chinese guy's potential client (whatever trade i do not know). Very glaring mistake made, you do not bring your client to a restaurant that you have never been to and appear very unsophisticated. Guy asked the waitress for recommendation and naively ordered the most expensive few dishes. I got bored after observing them and went back to another boring conversation with my dad. The next time i looked back, the 4 of them started wrapping the side dishes with the veggies (that were suppose to be used for wrapping succulent bbq meat). I signalled to my dad, who subsequently bursted into a series of uncontrollable childlike laughters.

You don't wrap salads with veggies. It is just too funny to watch!

Ingredients: Mascarpone cheese, whipping cream, Yakun coffee, sponge fingers, intelligent instincts and lots of love.

Steps:
1) Whip the cream with the mascarpone cheese until it looks happy and thick.
2) Cut sponge fingers into desirable shapes.
3) Chill Yakun coffee until cold.
4) Dip sponge fingers into coffee for brief moment. Repeat motion for all sponge fingers.
5) Line tin with thin layer of cream from mixture 1.
6) Line next layer with coffee wet sponge fingers.
7) Repeat layerings for another 3 to 4 times.
8) Chill in the freezer for as long as you wish.
9) Sprinker cocoa powder when serving. [ I had a bear stencil :) ]

9.45am: Woke up and checked the status of ringworm recovery. To my disappointment, it still looked the same.

10.00am: Sat in the living room planning to plan the perfect timetable on a useless day at home.

10.30am: Spent the next two hours surfing random websites and succumbing to online shopping temptations again.

12.30pm: Relentlessly opened the door to a group of strangers viewing our house and invading too much into my personal space. (apparently, my dad is thinking of selling our house)

1pm: Ate lunch while watching Steven Chow's Kungfu movie in English because my dad did not know how to manipulate the language button. It sounded extremely awful and very hard to swallow.

2.40pm: Attempted to take an afternoon nap but was awakened by my little brother. I was so angry because he asked me the word for fruit seller in chinese and i told him shui3 guo3 auntie. He said i am stupid because the correct word should be tan1 zhu3.

3.13pm: Went to Sheng Siong market with the dad and the maid and spent $258 on various items. I bought many different species of fishes since that is my only choice of food option since my ringworm infection.

4.30pm: Sat in my room for a while and reflected about life.

4.35pm: Removed everthing in my two wardrobes and attempted to mix and match and match and mix them.

6.10pm: Decided that i have way too many clothes and maybe my dad is right to say that i am a spendthrift.

6.15pm: Spent the next ten minutes aspiring to save up and cut down expenditure on clothes, shoes and bags.

6.20pm: Decided that it is not possible at all.

6.30pm: Steamed one of the fishes i bought from Sheng Siong market for dinner.

7.00pm: Opened my laptop, logged onto youtube and started watching ANTM cycle 13, the petite models cycle. It made me happy because the world actually has a heart for all souls and species.

8.10pm: Received a weird call from an Indian man telling me to sign up for weird phone packages. After some struggle and confusion, i realised it was a prank call from the beloved and his cousins.

8.20pm: Continued with ANTM cycle 13.

9.00pm: Headed down to the pool and went for a swim. Strived for 20 laps but eventually decided to emerge from the pool after 6 laps because there were weird uncles looking and gossiping at the deck chairs.

9.30pm: Picked up the bible and attempted to read it.

10.00pm: Received a call from a great friend to hear her complaining about her fucking manager and spent the next 30 minutes plotting with her on killing that fucking manager.

10.30pm: Decided to blog about this old, damn, peaceful sunday.

Train rides have never felt so treacherous and draining. I have never gotten so much attention in my life. Unwanted attention to be more exact. For whatever reason, the ringworms that were cured 1 month ago came back to my face for an endearing revisit. Maybe she wants to mark her territory on my face again. No one will look good or the least normal with huge red patches on the cheeks. Not to mention the occassional spur of greenish-yellow pus beneath queuing to explode. I admit i am not emotionally strong enough to deal with such a drastic change in my appearance. It does not feel good to be stared upon when you walk on the street. It does not feel good to have such a low self confidence that you have to back face the crowd during lunch hour.

I do not need a mask to hide behind.

I need some true confidence.

Back here, i have to squeeze in between heaps of human crowd to catch a glimpse of fireworks either during national day or new year.

There lives a tycoon in front of our house. He spent a few millions on fireworks at his backyard for prosperity and feng-shui sake. We sat at our living room, separated by a huge glass window, watching fireworks washing our faces like a massive fountain.

His money well spent. Our eyes well fed.
